What is BoltAI about?

BoltAI provides a unified native experience on macOS for accessing top AI services (e.g., OpenAI GPT models) and local models such as Stable Diffusion. It embeds AI directly into text fields of any app, letting users generate text, code, images, and more without leaving their current workflow.

How to use BoltAI?

1. Download the macOS app from https://boltai.com/latest (compatible with Intel & Apple Silicon, macOS 12+).
2. Install by opening the DMG and dragging the app to the Applications folder.
3. Enter your OpenAI API key – the key is stored securely in Apple Keychain.
4. Activate BoltAI in any text field (e.g., Mail, Notes, Xcode) via a keyboard shortcut or menu bar icon.
5. Select a model or custom AI Assistant from the built‑in prompt library or create your own.
6. Interact with the AI; responses appear inline, and sensitive data is automatically redacted.

• How is usage cost calculated? Costs follow OpenAI’s public pricing per model and token type. BoltAI only estimates; check your OpenAI dashboard for exact usage.

• What is an AI Assistant? A custom‑configured set of instructions and parameters that tailor the model’s behavior for specific tasks (e.g., a creative writer or a coding aide).

• Can I create my own AI Assistant? Yes, via the built‑in creator. Adjust prompts, temperature, and other settings to fit your workflow.

• What are the system requirements? macOS 12.0 or later on Intel or Apple Silicon devices, an internet connection, and a valid OpenAI API key.

• How does licensing work? A perpetual license key grants indefinite use of the current version and one year of free updates. After that, you may continue using the last version you have.

• Can I use a ChatGPT Plus subscription? BoltAI requires a direct OpenAI API key; ChatGPT Plus does not provide an API key.

• Can I transfer the license to another computer? Yes—use the “Unlink Device” option in Preferences → License, then activate on the new machine.

• What are the requirements to use BoltAI?1. A macOS device. BoltAI is currently exclusive to macOS and is compatible with macOS 12.0+2. An OpenAI API key. BoltAI operates by connecting to OpenAI's GPT technology, and for this, you'll need your own OpenAI API key. You can obtain this by signing up on OpenAI's website.3. Internet connection. As BoltAI communicates with OpenAI's servers to generate responses, a stable internet connection is required for smooth operation.
• How does license work?The license is a perpetual license. One license key allows you to use the current app version indefinitely . You are also eligible for one year of free updates. If you don't want to renew your license after one year, you can continue to use the last version of BoltAI that you have for as long as you want.Read more…
• Can I use this with my ChatGPT Plus subscription?Currently, BoltAI requires you to have your own OpenAI API key to operate. The ChatGPT Plus subscription is separate and managed by OpenAI, it does not provide an API key that you can use with BoltAI. Please visitOpenAI's websitefor more details on how to obtain an API key.
• Can I change the license key to another computer after I activate it?Yes. Go to BoltAI → Preferences... → License → Unlink Device and follow the instructions.
